The Mrirt Rugs are characterized by their density that makes tem warmer and ideal to use in colder regions. Each individual piece is made using lined knots and the technique of “pile and weave”.

Fertility symbols are used to decorate the carpets depicting the value of children and a good-sized herd for the tribe’s prosperity and survival.

Hand woven: the Mrirt Carpets

Located about 200km from the tribe of Beni Ourain, the Mrirt people use similar methods and weaving techniques. Using a comb (metal), they wind the string of wool on a vertical loom. This ultimately provides the wool with a lovely silky texture that feels amazing when stepped on.

Interior Moroccan Design

From time immemorial, the Mrirt carpets are considered superior throughout the world because of their fine texture and I quality. The French invaders were taken aback by the lovely Moroccan interior and bold colors. They took different pieces back and created their own style statement that makes up the Mrirt Rus. Additionally, Berber carpets are quite popular and in fashion these days. They are used by different stylists and designers for various projects.
